Alexandra Rees, Executive Director:

Alexsandra Rees

Alexsandra (Sandy) Rees has spent most of her adult life working in the non-profit field in business and social service sectors as CEO, Director of Development, Community Outreach and Public Relations and Marketing. She holds a Master's Degree in Behavioral Health, and a BA in Business. She is graduate of Cal State Leadership North and attended UCLA's Institute for Organizational Management. She is a Tribal Artisan of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona. Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Sandy is a fourth generation Tucsonan. Her first language was Spanish learning English only after entering school at the age of 6. In Tucson she was involved with Youth at Risk, Ronald McDonald House, Children's Miracle Network, Pascua Yaqui Tribe in Development and Community Outreach, created the Pascua Yaqui Youth Education and Wellness Foundation, and was Director of Development and Community Affairs for the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, one of the largest chambers in the nation. Sandy moved to San Diego eight years ago and worked at Interfaith Community Services as a Program Administrator for the Confia en Ti program for migrant workers and their families. She then went to San Marcos Chamber of Commerce as CEO and was Vice President of Development for the Tiananmen Square Children's Peace Foundation. Sandy relates well to the mission of La Cuna, having been raised by her loving grandmother and aunt. She says that it is through the love and nurturing of her Nana that she grew to adulthood with the values she holds dear today. Her Nana, who spoke only Spanish, imparted to her the love of the language, music and culture.

Rachel Humphreys, MA, Founder:

Ms Humphreys has a long history of commitment to projects that bring critical resources to underserved youth. She began working with children in the Cabrini Green Projects in Chicago and later worked with gangs in Tucson. In San Diego, Humphreys has directed youth programs and advocated for the rights of children for the past 12 years. She has a 17-year history of designing and implementing projects that bring critical resources to youth. As the Founder of La Cuna, Humphreys' responsibilities include: child advocacy work, program development, budgeting, community outreach and collaboration, board development, fundraising, staff management, oversight of all operations and fulfillment of county and state FFA requirements. Humphreys is bilingual (English/Spanish), has a Masters in Latin American Studies from the U. of AZ and was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for US/Mexico Studies at UCSD.
